Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast- A delicious recipe for slow roasting a turkey breast without needing the oven.

slow cooker turkey breast

Let’s do some turkey talkin’ today. The big day is next week and I thought it would be nice to give you a recipe for slow cooker turkey breast.  Some people prefer only the white meat and it’s nice to have a way of cooking the bird without taking all the oven space for the whole day, or majority of.  Plus, not everyone wants to have that much turkey. So, if you’re looking to scale down the amount of food you’re fixing or are only interested in white meat then this recipe is what you need for your Thanksgiving menu.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

I bought a 5.5 pound turkey breast (bone-in) to use for this recipe. I recommend a 5-7 pound one. I also added a few pieces of onion, but I didn’t add much because we aren’t huge fans. I just wanted a little boost of flavor. I poured some chicken broth in the base of my crock pot and then placed the breast side down and let it cook for 5-7 hours. This really is a great alternative to roasting an entire turkey in the oven.

We enjoyed this yummy and easy recipe. I hope you do, too!

Ingredients
  1. 5-7 pound, bone-in turkey breast, thawed
  2. 2 cups chicken broth
  3. onion (about 1/8 cup)
  4. 1 stick of butter
  5. salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Place a few onion pieces in the base of the slow cooker and in the cavity of the turkey.
  2. Pour 1/2 cup of chicken broth into the base of the slow cooker.
  3. I also place a few pats of butter inside the cavity of the turkey
  4. Place turkey in slow cooker, breast side down
  5. Pour chicken broth over turkey
  6. Sprinkle with salt and pepper
  7. Place remaining butter slices over the top of the turkey
  8. Put lid on and set setting to low
  9. Allow turkey breast to cook for 5-7 hours.
  10. Insert thermometer into thickest part of the breast and make sure turkey is cooked to at least 165 degrees.
  11. Remove from slow cooker and place on cutting board.
  12. Allow the turkey to rest for about 20 minutes before slicing it.
Notes
  1. If you're not ready to eat the turkey yet, go ahead and cut it into pieces and place back in the slow cooker on warm setting.
  2. If you would like you can pour over more broth, but I recommend using sodium free, or reduced at this point.
  3. This helps to keep the turkey warm and not to dry out.
