Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Ingredients

  • 5-7 pound bone-in turkey breast, thawed
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • onion about ⅛ cup
  • 1 stick of butter
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Place a few onion pieces in the base of the slow cooker and in the cavity of the turkey.
  • Pour ½ cup of chicken broth into the base of the slow cooker.
  • I also place a few pats of butter inside the cavity of the turkey
  • Place turkey in slow cooker, breast side down
  • Pour chicken broth over turkey
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper
  • Place remaining butter slices over the top of the turkey
  • Put lid on and set setting to low
  • Allow turkey breast to cook for 5-7 hours.
  • Insert thermometer into thickest part of the breast and make sure turkey is cooked to at least 165 degrees.
  • Remove from slow cooker and place on cutting board.
  • Allow the turkey to rest for about 20 minutes before slicing it.

Notes

If you're not ready to eat the turkey yet, go ahead and cut it into pieces and place back in the slow cooker on warm setting.
If you would like you can pour over more broth, but I recommend using sodium free, or reduced at this point.
This helps to keep the turkey warm and not to dry out.
