Chocolate Sheet Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Frosting

  • ½ cup of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of cocoa
  • 6 tablespoons of milk I use whole
  • Approximately 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts I use walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  • Mix sugar and flour together in a large mixing bowl.
  • Heat cocoa, water and butter in pan until boiling.
  • Pour over dry ingredients.
  • Add buttermilk, mix with baking soda, then eggs and vanilla.
  • Pour into sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

Frosting

  • While the cake is baking bring butter, cocoa and milk to a slight boil in a saucepan. Once boiling remove from heat and stir in sugar and vanilla. Mix well. Spread over hot cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  • Cool completely.
