I hope you are not tired of seeing breakfast recipes from me, yet. I LOVE breakfast foods in general, but oatmeal is one of my favorites. I could probably eat it every morning but my husband would quickly get tired of it.
I was making soup for dinner last week and thought that cooked apples would be perfect. It was a comfort meal to the max! Homemade chicken noodle soup and cooked apples. I had some cooked apples leftover and thought how yummy they would be on oatmeal. Can you guess what I had for breakfast the next day?
I made my oatmeal as usual except I added some apple pie spice as well as the cooked apples. I recommend reserving some of the liquid the apples cook in to pour over the oatmeal.
This recipe is nothing fancy but I love oatmeal and I enjoy trying new flavor combinations. I know apples is nothing new in oatmeal but I was eager to try "cooked" apples in my oatmeal. It did not disappoint.
What flavor combinations or add-ins do you put in your oatmeal? I would love to try something new!
Apple Pie Oatmeal
Ingredients
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 ½ cup water
- 1 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. apple pie spice
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. honey
- 1 tbsp. butter
- ÂĽ cup of cooked apples more or less depending on your taste
Instructions
- Place oats in a sauce pan and cover with water. Lightly stir the oats to cover them in water. Cook on med heat. Add brown sugar. Watch closely so the oats don't scorch. The cooking time is less than five min. Once the oats are cooked and most of liquid is absorbed I spoon the oats into a bowl and add the rest of the toppings.
